He gave 4 different word lists to participants to remember
-Group 1 = words sound similar (acoustically similar) e.g. cat, hat, mat
-Group 2 = words sound different (acoustically dissimilar) e.g. dog, house, pit
-Group 3 = words with similar meanings (semantically similar) e.g. big, large, great
-Group 4 = words with different meanings (semantically dissimilar) e.g. good, huge, hot
He found that after a short interval of hearing the list and recalling (STM) participants did worse with the acoustically similar words.
He found that after a longer interval (LTM) participants did worse with the semantically similar words.
